What Drives Motivation Behavior

The Important Influence Of Motivation On Behavior

For many, the quest for self-growth is fueled by what really drives motivation. If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone! Motivation is a never-ending cycle, as each person begins and continues to develop traits that help them reach their full potential. Those who are lacking in motivation will often lack the drive and energy to really accomplish much in their lives.

The first step is to determine what drives your own motivation level. Is it related to what you want to accomplish in life? When you ask yourself these questions you are opening up a pathway for personal growth. When you gain an understanding of who you are and what you want out of life you will be able to identify and solve the problems that deter you.

For most people, their motivation is centred around their own self-image. They want to look and feel good about themselves. Others may have different motivations, but many people want to be successful, financially secure, healthier, and happier. Regardless of what the reasons are for your own motivation, there are action steps you can take to develop and maintain the proper motivation levels. Taking small steps to improve your self-image and your sense of self-worth will go a long way toward boosting your overall motivation levels.

Motivational behaviours or thoughts come more naturally to some people than others. If you have low self-esteem you may find it difficult to be assertive or to be decisive. You need to discover what motivates you on a day-to-day basis and then use those behaviours to help you reach your goals.

As you become aware of your own behaviours you will also begin to notice how they relate to your goals. For example, if you want to be more assertive you may consider acknowledging your feelings and thoughts. Reminding yourself of your strengths and abilities is another helpful tool. By taking small steps to improve your motivation level you are setting yourself up for further success. You can work with your own mind and body to overcome obstacles. When you make good choices and take consistent steps in a positive direction you will be well on your way to reaching your goals.

Another way to boost your motivation level is to make a list of all your motivation behaviours and thoughts. Make a list of what you like to do, what makes you happy, and other things that motivate you. It may be helpful to write these lists down in order of highest to lowest motivation level. This can be very helpful when you want to get something done but just cannot seem to focus on it. Writing your goals down and reviewing them before you set off on your goal will serve to greatly increase your overall motivation.

After you have made a list of your motivation behaviours and thoughts you need to take a look at your habits. Are your behaviours working to support or oppose your goals? Is your behaviour causing you to procrastinate, get angry, whine, criticize, or become depressed? If your behaviour in any one of these areas is serving to undermine your motivation you need to get rid of it and replace it with more positive behaviour. Changing the physical act of the way you do things can have a tremendous impact on your motivation.

Your attitude toward yourself and life, in general, has a great impact on your level of motivation. A positive attitude will inspire you to reach more goals and feel happier and more satisfied with your life. An attitude that is negative and depressing will deter you from taking positive action and will fill you with dread and anxiety. Your motivation behaviours and thoughts are a great determining factor in how much you truly drive your own success. By changing your behaviour patterns you can change your own motivation and achieve more out of life.
